Home Inspections are Key

For  most of us, a home is the most important purchase we will ever make.

But unlike most things we buy, there’s no money-back guarantee or return policy if you're not satisfied with your new home.

I always recommend that home buyers in the Minneapolis real estate market make the purchase of a home contingent on a home inspection.

Properly trained inspectors view a home as an interconnected system.

  • They look at how one component of the house might affect another, and conduct an in-depth inspection to assess the condition of the house and its systems.
  • They will determine which, if any, components are not performing properly, as well as items that are beyond their useful life or are unsafe.
  • They will also identify areas where repairs may be needed or where there may have been problems in the past.

A good home inspector is fair to both parties and explains what the expectations should be.

Items should be listed in a format showing what should be done in the future to protect the home and what should be taken care of prior to the purchase of the home.

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of knowing what you are buying before you proceed  with a home purchase.
