Cultural Life of Minneapolis

The Mini Apple

When it comes to the arts, Minneapolis is the "Mini Apple" -- second only to the "Big Apple" (New York City) in the number of theater seats per capita.

The vibrant arts environment is one of the reasons Minneapolis is often cited as a “most livable” city.  A Carnegie Mellon University report ranked Minneapolis among the top 10 on the “Bohemian Index” for its concentration of creative people.

Get a Good Read on Minneapolis

Minneapolis ranks as one of America's most literate cities.  Our libraries are exceptional.

Visual and Performing Arts

Two excellent orchestras, including the Minnesota Orchestra, several exciting dance companies, a fine opera company and several art museums help make the Twin Cities the cultural center of the Upper Midwest.

Enjoy live music?

Minneapolis stages spotlight concerts by the top performers in the country. The Minneapolis music scene includes jazz and blues clubs, along with a wide selection of nightclubs that bill rock, country and progressive bands.

Live music revenues include:  First Avenue, Dinkeytowner Cafe, and the Fine Line Music Cafe.

Theaters in Minneapolis deserve a standing ovation.

The Guthrie Theater is the best known, yet more than two dozen professional productions are presented in the Twin Cities on a typical weekend.

Some of my favorites are:

I also like to check out Minneapolis Independent Theater
