Welcome to Edina!

Edina has it all ...

Gorgeous homes vibrant and uniquely identifiable neighborhoods, premier schools, a thriving downtown, proximity of Minneapolis, lots of fun plays to recreate, and a strong sense of community identity!

Beautiful Community Adjacent to Minneapolis

One of the most affluent communities in the Minneapolis metro area, Edina is located along the southwest boundary of Minneapolis.

Edina has tree-lined streets, rolling hills, woodlands, ponds, lakes, and winding streams.

Unparalled Facilities and Services

Besides Edina's great schools, my favorite thing about Edina is the top-notch recreational facilities and services.

  • The 500-acre Braemar Park features a golf course rated among the best public courses in the U.S. and an arena for hockey and figure skating.

  • The Edina Art Center offers classes in painting, pottery, photography cartooning and other cool visual arts.

  • Centennial Lakes is 24-acre park and pond where there's something to do every season. You can fish, ride a paddleboat, watch radio control yacht races, play croquet, ice skate, or ride a Norwegian ice sled.

  • Edina is recognized for some of the top recreational facilities in the Minneapolis area. Among Edina's unique recreational facilities is Edinborough Park, an indoor public park that features:

  • A junior-Olympic size swimming pool,

  • A running track and fitness area,

  • One of the largest indoor play structures in the U.S.

  • A 250-seat, Greek-style amphitheater.

  • Edinborough also has a banquet room called the "Great Hall" at which I attended a co-worker's wedding and a four-year old's birthday party -- Fortunately, not at the same time!

Shopping in Edina

Downtown Minneapolis and the Mall of America are a short drive.  However, there's also lots of great shopping in Edina. Downtown Edina at 50th and France features unique boutiques, salons, professional offices, Lund's, neat restaurants, and an old-time ice cream parlor.

The world's first enclosed shopping mall, Southdale, opened in Edina in 1956. Other shopping in Edina includes the Galleria and Yorktown Plaza, and Centennial Lakes Plaza.

The first weekend of June, Edina holds the Edina Art Fair where local, regional, and national artists feature their art.

Edina's Scottish Roots

Legend has it there were two opposing communities that made up this area of western Richfield Township -- the Irish Cahill community and the Scottish Mill community. When Edina became a village in 1888, those two communities fought about whether to give the community an Irish Name, "Killarney Lakes," or a Scottish name, "Edina." Find out how the Scots won the Edina name game.
