Bloomington is known by
tourists around the world as the home of the Mall of
America.
While the Mall is America's top tourist destination with 42 million
visitors each year, there is much more to Bloomington, a suburb south of
Minneapolis.

Much More Than the Mall
Bloomington
Minnesota is a desirable community to live in because of its excellent
and progressive school system, its extensive recreational facilities,
its comprehensive community planning, and its proximity to downtown
Minneapolis and St. Paul and the Twin Cities International
Airport. |
A
Tale of Two Cities
Bloomington is the
third most populous city in the Twin Cities' area after Minneapolis and
St. Paul. The City has been around since 1858.
Bloomington has two distinct
sections.
-
Eastern Bloomington is the section of the city developed
between 1945 and 1960. It is characterized by older,
well-maintained rambler style homes in neatly laid out
neighborhoods.
-
Western Bloomington, located west of France Avenue, offers
newer, more spacious homes on larger lots.
Natural
Habitat
There is a lot of natural habitat in Bloomington. There are numerous
parks and nature areas and 208 lakes and ponds. Along the Minnesota
River are 14 miles of shoreline, as well as the Nine Mile Creek
Watershed area.
Around Hyland Lake Park Reserve is a beautiful area where
many of the more expensive homes are located and which also features a
massive "Chutes and Ladders" playground for children, the Hyland Hills Ski Area and
Ski School and is also home to the Minnesota Valley National
Wildlife Refuge Headquarters. This kind of natural terrain makes up
about one-quarter of Bloomington.
Another fun place in Bloomington is the Bloomington Family Aquatic Center, which opened in
2004. Amenities include a zero-depth entry pool, interactive play
features, waterslides, diving boards, sand volleyball, bathhouse, and
concession stand.
As you can see, there many places for for fun in your life in
Bloomington.
